Since 2021, El Bermejito Technical School of Nature Tourism, run by the Chaco Institute of Tourism and Rewilding Argentina, trains local entrepreneurs to provide products and services tied to nature tourism, seeking to improve the wellbeing of communities in and around the national park and promoting the protection and restoration of the wildlife and forests of El Impenetrable.

Cuisine

Food is an important part of the experience. The cooks of El Impenetrable showcase the flavors of the Chacoan forests in their homes. This is the case with Zulma at her hostel, Campo Alegre; or Estela and Esteban, who invite you to share a meal at their table in the Don Esteban diner; or Tania Cavana, who provides food services at Camping Los Tres Molles. All these options are located in the village of La Armonía, at the gateway to the park. You can also eat at the village squares, which serve as local gathering places for lunch and dinner.

Some of the traditional dishes of the area include stews, clay oven-baked charquí empanadas, grilled goat meat and squash, squash quiche (meat-based or vegetarian), grilled tortillas and other bakery goods, desserts made with native berries, and homemade cheese.

Cultural Experiences

The Entrepreneurs by Nature of El Impenetrable offer guided tourist experiences such as hiking through the forest and kayaking down the Bermejito River. They also create handicrafts out of leather, wool, ceramic, or dry wood from the forest, as well as food products made from carob flour and native fruits such as mistol and chañar berries. All these products are available for purchase at El Bermejito Technical School and Glamping Los Palmares.

Local artisans will welcome you into their homes to demonstrate the ancestral techniques they use to weave or carve their pieces during approximately two-hour workshops followed by a traditional afternoon tea.

Entrepreneurs by Nature is a program run by Rewilding Argentina which certifies the commitment of communities to protecting wildlife and the natural environments surrounding the protected areas of Argentina. Certified entrepreneurs are the first to understand and value the direct benefits of living near a healthy ecosystem. For this reason, they fight for its protection and restoration, becoming wildlife “guardians.”
